We Do Baby Showers…and more!

Oh THANK HEAVEN FOR LITTLE GIRLS…and Baby Showers…and glitter…and sequins! We wanted to take a moment in our off season to show off some of our other work. We LOVE weddings, but we also love all other celebrations! So in this post we wanted to show some of our ideas for a sophisticated glam baby shower that highlights all things girly! We had sooo much fun with the linens from La Tavola and great rentals from All Well Rents. One of my favorite things in design is to mix textures and patterns that compliment one another. You will find fun examples of this with the soft petal linen contrasted with the chevron sequin overlay.

Another one of my favorite things to do for parties is to have real glassware for beverages. It elevates the event a notch and it’s actually not expensive to rent them for your party. The ones we have here are the Daiquiri glass from All Well Rents.  And the bonus is…you don’t have to wash them!! Just return them dirty!

So keep us in mind for all your party planning needs! We’d love to help style & design your next great event!

A New Year’s Eve Wedding: Tricia + Eric

This blog post has been a bit daunting because I do not know how to capture the magic of this wedding in words and photos alone…however, I’m so excited to share it with you! Tricia & Eric were amazing clients…the kind we dream of! Their excitement to become husband and wife was infectious and the main focus of their short engagement. They viewed this commitment with the utmost reverence and couldn’t wait to throw the most unbelievable party to celebrate with their friends & family!

The decision to have the wedding on New Years Eve was carefully weighed and determined to be the perfect night to invite all their friends & family to a black tie, downtown Denver, winter soiree. Because Tricia & Eric were so busy during this short engagement, they allowed me the freedom to create a space & set the stage that would capture who they are, what their love represents, and how they wanted to celebrate…and because it was New Year’s Eve…we got to use LOTS of GLITTER!!

We selected one of my favorite downtown Denver Venues, The Studio Loft and Kevin Taylor’s at the Opera House. Both of these spaces offer the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable event. I was so inspired as the couple challenged me to blend Eric’s cool, modern, downtown style (seen in the venue) and Tricia’s boho, free spirited, romantic style (seen in the decor). And I couldn’t have done it without my amazing vendors! DesignWorks Denver helped bring my vision to life in the ceremony space with miles of draped fabric, candles and lighting. Then Liz & Cori from Cori Cook Floral Designs blew our minds with the floral installations and centerpieces. They always go above and beyond my expectations and that’s why they are my favorite gals to work with! And let’s not forget the linens from LA Tavola! Linens might be my favorite indulgence in event design and this couple let me go all out with tablescapes that made jaws drop.

But that’s enough from me…enjoy the photos brought to you by Preston Utley. And if you want to see Tricia & Eric’s wedding video check it here!

Q: What inspired you to get into the wedding industry?
A:  My own wedding!  I loved dreaming about the flowers for my own wedding.  I had a growing desire to work with flowers for a few years when I attended a floral design school in Southern California.  Shortly after, I began doing friends weddings and realized I had a knack for floral design.

Q: What’s your favorite part of your job?
A: DESIGN.  Unfortunately, the other parts of my job like phone calls, proposals, and bills take up a lot of my time.  But my favorite moments of my job are designing the first boutonnière, making sure a centerpiece is just perfect, or designing the bridal bouquet.

Q: What advice would you give brides during their planning process?
A:  To find a florist you love and TRUST her advice.  A good floral designer WILL have an opinion!  Trust her sense of style, color, and design.  Give her a bit of free reign and I promise you will get a better end result than if you had thought of it yourself.  After all, this is her profession and she has likely seen it all!

Q: How do you separate yourself from other vendors?
A:  We believe in QUALITY over QUANTITY.  This means we take less weddings than we could book.  We’re selective about the people we work with because we want our experience to be a good fit for both parties.  We feel like the level of service you receive when a florist does 10 weddings per weekend pales in comparison to a florist who only specializes in a wedding or two per weekend.  We are available to our clients and like to form a bond that lasts long past their wedding day!

Q: How would you describe your company’s style and motto?
A: We are stylish and distinct.  We are always thinking of new ideas.  We aren’t content doing the same style of arrangement over and over and feel every wedding should be a representation of the personal style of the bride and groom.  We also believe strongly in cohesive events.  This means that we spend a lot of time with our brides helping them to tie the pieces together from linens, flowers, and paperware, to the simplest of details like votive cups and napkin color.

Q: What do you love most being a part of each bride’s wedding day?
A:  My favorite moment in a wedding day is handing the bride her bridal bouquet.  I love getting to watch her reaction to her flowers and knowing that something we designed brought tears to her eyes or a smile to her face on such an important day!

Q: What are your favorite resources for finding new ideas and inspiration?
A:  Pinterest!  While I regularly follow about 10 wedding blogs and about 15 inspiring florists from around the world, I can’t get over how Pinterest is changing the floral design industry.  For the first time, brides are being exposed to beautiful photos of flowers and inspiring images of weddings that are helping them visualize what they want for their own wedding!  You can follow our Pinterest boards at:  http://pinterest.com/coricookfloral/
